Canton ISD Superintendent Dr. Brian Nichols opened the informational portion of the March 17 meeting with districtwide figures and operational notes. He reported total enrollment of 2,265 students, with campus breakdowns of CHS 627, CJH 546, CIS 526 and CES 566, and reminded trustees that March 17 was a staff development day with students returning March 18.
Dr. Nichols said registration for returning students and new pre‑kindergarten and kindergarten students will begin April 1, 2025. He also reported the district hosted a safety and security meeting with local first responders on March 17 and that iron fencing is being installed across campuses with expected completion the week of March 24. He cited recent student successes: the band received straight 1's in the UIL Sight Reading Evaluation for the 32nd consecutive year and three CHS students were selected for the TMEA/ATSSB All State Band.
