Bryan ISD outlines bilingual and ESL services for more than 5,000 students

Dr. Georgeanna Adams-Molina, director of Bilingual and ESL Services, presented a high-level overview of Bryan ISD’s bilingual and English-as-a-Second-Language programs. She reported the district serves more than 5,000 emergent bilingual students in the Transitional Early Exit Program across 13 elementary campuses and operates two-way dual-language instruction from pre-K through sixth grade at Henderson, Johnson, Crockett and Jane Long Intermediate.
Adams-Molina said New Arrival Centers at Jones Elementary, Jane Long Intermediate, Davila Middle School, Bryan High School and Mary Catherine Harris School provide language instruction, cultural orientation and academic support to more than 315 students from Guatemala, Venezuela, Mexico, Honduras and Haiti. She also noted that TELPAS and STAAR results show emergent bilingual students outperformed the state in multiple reading/language measures in the most recent results discussed by the board.
