The Bryan ISD Board of Trustees opened its Oct. 7 meeting with a tribute to Merrill Green, a longtime coach and community leader who died Sept. 29 at age 94. Trustee Ruthie Waller described Green’s decades-long impact on student-athletes, noting his service as Bryan High School head football coach for 20 years and as Bryan ISD athletic director.
Waller thanked the Athletic Department under Athletic Director Dereck Rush and staff including Josh Woodall, Chris Gibson and Lane Buban, along with campus administrators and the Communications Department for their roles in honoring Green. She highlighted his civic leadership, including service as president of the Bryan ISD School Board, president of the Texas High School Coaches Association and a Rotary District Governor.
