Commission appoints Commissioner Rose as chair; Ganapathy named vice chair

The Arts Commission followed a council policy-based succession plan to appoint leadership for the coming term. Staff explained the policy that the next eligible commissioner—by time served without prior recent service as chair—moves into the chair role.

Commissioners moved to install Commissioner Rose as chair and Commissioner Ganapathy as vice chair under that order. The motion was made, seconded, and approved by voice vote. Chris Guillen (staff) summarized the seniority order that led to the recommendation, noting the policy aims to rotate leadership while ensuring commissioners have served for at least one year before becoming chair.

Commissioners discussed practicalities of the transition and whether to switch roles immediately or at the next meeting; they agreed the switch could occur at the next meeting if preferred. No further formal actions were taken beyond the appointment motion.
