District leaders told the board Aug. 19 that Chapel Hill ISD will transition to an academy model and that the 2024–25 year will be the final year for the Early College High School program.
Laura Helm, Assistant Principal at Chapel Hill High School, presented an update on Early College and College, Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) initiatives, saying Early College has "provided students with valuable opportunities to earn college credits while still in high school" and that the district will move to an all-inclusive Academy Model beginning after the 2024–25 year. The presentation also covered the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) assessment and its role in college readiness. Separately, Kedrick Graves described an interlocal agreement with Tyler ISD for JJAEP services (educational services for students placed in the Smith County Juvenile Services Center).
Board members also received information about TASB-based updates to the 2024–25 Student Handbook, plans to replace auditorium curtains to meet NFPA 701 flame-retardant standards as part of the district's Long Range Facility Plan, and Student Services programs that include counseling, nursing, McKinney-Vento services and teen pregnancy support. Clint McLain told the board that $18,920,000 remains to be issued from the bond authorization approved in 2023 and that SAMCO Capital Markets will present on issuance process in September.
