Chapel Hill ISD approves Highlighter Drill Team trip to Disney performing-arts workshop

The Chapel Hill ISD Board approved a request Aug. 19 for the Highlighter Drill Team to attend a Disney Performing Arts Workshop in Orlando Jan. 18–22, 2025.
Allyson Maranitch said the workshop will be led by professionally trained Disney performers teaching choreography and staging techniques and offering students opportunities to learn audition processes and career advice. The itinerary includes charter-bus transport to Dallas and flights to Orlando; estimated student costs range from $2,107 to $2,602 and will be funded through fundraising. Green Light GroupTours will provide a $2,000,000 liability-insurance policy for the trip. The motion to approve was made by Herschel Massenburge and seconded by Amy Hayes; the vote was 6–0.
The board's approval authorizes travel planning and fundraising to proceed under district travel and student-activity rules.
