Arena manager proposes $30 month-to-month membership, RV pedestal procurement and event discount for homeschool association

Ashley Hay, the county asset manager for the arena/event center, recapped summer programming — a car show, movie night, and youth pickleball camp — and said the facility expects regular bookings in September for the rodeo (Sept. 4–5). She reported that the electrical cost estimates for RV pedestals returned higher than anticipated and recommended purchasing pedestals directly to lower unit costs; local electricians had quoted higher install prices than the procurement prices the county could obtain by purchasing equipment directly.
Hay proposed offering a $30 month-to-month membership for facility users to provide a lower-cost option for seasonal users (the facility currently offers a $10 day pass and a $100 annual pass). "I wanted to, try that out at $30 a month," Hay said. She also asked the commission to consider extending the same 25% rental discount the board offers the Saint Clair County Board of Education to a homeschool athletic association that includes county participants. Commissioners discussed vendor competition and the need to balance local vendor preference when events could cannibalize existing vendor income.
Staff said they would obtain competitive prices for pedestals and electrician labor, and bring contract or procurement recommendations back to the commission for approval if direct purchase is feasible within grant or budget constraints.
