Saint Clair County targets $2.1M in Rebuild Alabama funds for FY2027 roadwork

County road staff presented a Rebuild Alabama transportation plan for fiscal year 2027 that prioritizes microsurfacing and scrub-micro treatments on a cluster of county roads, including County Road 41 (Hardwick Road), County Road 45 (Old Cove City Road), Manning Road, Wood Wolf Creek Road North, Hazelwood Drive and County Road 70 (River Road).
"The funds the the estimated funds for those projects is, $2,100,000," said Clay, the roads speaker, describing the package. Clay added the work covers about 20.5 centerline miles, and commissioners discussed sequencing and contractor roles for scrub-seal and microsurface operations. The county said clustering the projects should make delivery faster and more efficient; staff estimated contractors could complete clustered work in a few months depending on contractor assignments.
Commissioners noted that some of the roads lie in or near municipal limits and that federal and Rebuild Alabama funds can change local funding responsibilities. Staff said the list will be brought forward for formal agenda approval at the next meeting and that detailed maps and budgets will accompany the agenda packet.
