Operations recommended the district’s soon‑to‑be vacated Central Elementary School in downtown Ocala as a candidate for disposition. Mr. Collins presented a draft RFP for real‑estate advisory and brokerage services based on a Brevard County template; the draft would solicit marketing, sale and consulting services and ask firms for sample marketing approaches and pricing (advisory rates and commission percentages).
Board members debated whether the district should retain an on‑call real‑estate broker now or wait until after community engagement. The board agreed on a sequence: (1) hold one or two community meetings to solicit input about the downtown elementary site and potential future uses, (2) use the future‑focused operational plan as an attachment to the RFP so vendors respond against a consistent property list, and (3) finalize RFP language and evaluation criteria after public input. Facilities and procurement will coordinate sample properties for scoring and bring a refined RFP back to the board.
