District administrator Lacey: elementary attendance tops 90% and reading scores show gains

Lacey, the district administrator who presented the district administration report, told the board the district finished its first round of diagnostic testing and is "doing awesome with our attendance right now at the elementary school," reporting elementary attendance above 90% and noting the district is roughly 30% above the state elementary attendance average.
Lacey said reading data show year‑over‑year improvement ("the plus 7, the plus 6" compared with last year) and described targeted goals: "for the math, we want 60% or more of our kids to be on grade level," and to reduce the reading strategic group to under 22%, the lowest level in several years. She identified 49 students in the reading 'red' category (two or more grade levels below), including 16 students on IEPs and eight recent‑arrival monolingual students, and described interventions such as RTI groups, extra ELD instruction run by "Ms. Hartstein," and the Imagine Learning program to support English development.
Lacey stressed that improving literacy is expected to help math outcomes as students must be able to read story problems and understand mathematical language. She said teachers and instructional assistants are coordinating pacing and checkpoints across grades to raise achievement.
