Thune: Save America Act lacks Democratic support and filibuster remains an obstacle
Summary
Leader Thune said the Save America Act has failed five times and that "there are no Democrats who are gonna vote for this," while noting the Senate still has the legislative filibuster and that reconciliation might be a partial path forward.

A reporter asked Leader Thune whether the president's urging to pass the Save America Act had isolated him; Thune replied he had heard from the president but stressed political and arithmetic constraints.
"The only thing I've said all along is there are, 1, we have voted on the Save America Act 5 times... And I am willing to, in any way possible, get that across the finish line if there is a path to do it," he said. He then added, "there are no Democrats who are gonna vote for this. All 47 voted against the Save Act 5 times."
Thune also said the Senate is not getting rid of the legislative filibuster because "the votes aren't there to do that," and suggested that budget reconciliation could be used to pursue parts of the bill if a draft supports that approach. He did not identify specific reconciliation provisions nor provide a timeline for any such effort.
