County authorizes custodial bank accounts for children in Job & Family Services custody

The Hancock County Commissioners voted Feb. 26 to authorize the director of the Hancock County Department of Job & Family Services to establish and maintain individual bank accounts for children in the agency's custody.
Phil Johnson told the board children in care sometimes receive funds from survivor benefits and other government payments; the resolution allows the director to keep those funds in separate accounts for each child. Adam Witteman told the board the Treasurer's office will not need to be involved and explained how the practice will remain compliant for audit purposes. The motion to approve was moved by Commissioner William Bateson, seconded by Commissioner Timothy Bechtol, and passed 3-0.
The minutes do not record the bank or bank-account rules; contract or administrative procedures will define account management and auditing controls.
