Rachel Gebauer appeared before the Committee on Health on Jan. 23 as the mayor's nominee for a licensed dietitian seat on the District of Columbia Board of Dietetics and Nutrition, a term the chair said would end March 12, 2027 if she is confirmed.
Gebauer described more than a decade of clinical experience in inpatient and outpatient nutrition, currently serving as clinical director at Monte Nido and working in private practice. "I believe strongly that dietetics and nutrition education play a critical role in reducing health disparities and strengthening healthier communities across the district," she told the committee.
She emphasized the importance of evidence-based standards for licensed dietitians, noted barriers such as food insecurity and health literacy that undermine outcomes, and said she plans to bring an equity-focused, multidisciplinary perspective to the board. On questions about conflicts of interest, Gebauer said she would notify staff and seek counsel from the Board of Ethics and recuse herself if a conflict were identified, stating, "I would seek counsel from the Board of Ethics."
The Committee on Health will consider her nomination at its Jan. 26 meeting.
