Commissioners approve range improvement project for South Connellsville Rod and Gun Club

Fayette County commissioners unanimously approved a Range Improvement Project Agreement May 21 that county leaders said will upgrade the South Connellsville Rod and Gun Club to serve as a training and firearms-qualification facility for law enforcement, constables and county employees.
"The project will improve the South Connellsville Rod and Gun Club and provide a training and firearms qualification facility for law enforcement officers, constables, and county employees," Commissioner Scott Dunn said when introducing the agenda item. Dunn told the board the agreement is one of the final steps before construction can begin and that funding includes federal and state monies and forfeiture funds from the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office. Commissioner Vince Vicites said the project has been in development for some time and will serve law enforcement throughout the county, and Commissioner Harry Dutch Kaufman thanked Congressman Guy Reschenthaler’s office for assistance securing funding.
The motion to approve the agreement was moved by Commissioner Kaufman, seconded by Commissioner Vicites, and recorded as passing unanimously. County officials described the approved agreement as enabling the county and local partners to move toward construction; the minutes note this approval does not itself obligate construction contracts beyond the agreement on the agenda.
