The Grundy Center City Council convened a special session on April 7, 2025, and opened a public hearing at 5:31 p.m. on a proposed fiscal year 2026 property tax levy set at $16.46489 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. Rasmussen moved to open the hearing and Mcdonald seconded.
City Clerk Kristy Sawyer told the council the levy level reflected a 12.12% increase in health, property, liability and self-insurance premiums and higher FICA/IPERS costs driven by proposed wage increases. The clerk presented those cost increases as the basis for the proposed levy.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. At 5:48 p.m., Mcdonald moved and Smith seconded to close the public hearing; the motion carried with five ayes. The council took no further action on the levy at that meeting and subsequently adjourned at 5:49 p.m. after Rasmussen moved and Lamp seconded the adjournment motion, which also passed with five ayes.
