Hancock County commissioners approve $1.73 million resurfacing contract, budget transfers and multiple facility contracts

Commissioner Jeffrey Hunker opened the March 3 meeting of the Hancock County Board of Commissioners at 9:30 a.m. and the board moved quickly through minutes, travel requests and financial reports before taking up a series of resolutions.
The board approved the minutes from Feb. 26 (motion by William Bateson, seconded by Tim Bechtol) and then passed several resolutions, including Resolution #122-26 to appropriate $235,200 to General Fund #1001 and Resolution #123-26 to transfer $186,720.76 from General Fund #1001 to Courthouse Restoration Fund #4145. All motions carried 3-0.
Staff member Cindy Land presented a slate of departmental authorizations and the board approved awarding the 2026 Hancock Cooperative Local Resurfacing Program to Shelly Company - Northwest, with a county cost reported as $1,734,360.40. "Cindy explained the cost to the County will be $1,734,360.40," the record shows. The board also approved routine purchases and smaller capital and maintenance items across county departments.
The board voted unanimously on each item; motions were consistently moved by William Bateson and seconded by Tim Bechtol. The meeting included reports from Auditor Charity Rauschenberg and staff about grant work, facilities contracts and recycling coordination, and closed with staff instructions to prepare a farmland-preservation resolution requested by a land-conservation group.
