Gladewater Middle School reports higher attendance, fewer discipline incidents

Gladewater Middle School’s principal reported measurable gains in attendance and a decrease in disciplinary incidents during a campus spotlight at the Oct. 21 board meeting. “This year they are consistently 95-96% attendance,” Principal Becky Lanham said, noting the campus historically hovered in the 92–93% range.
Lanham told trustees the first six weeks this year saw 40 recorded "incidents" — defined broadly to include conferences and redirections — compared with 84 during the same period the prior year. She also reported fewer unplanned substitute days for staff (11 so far this year versus 15 previously) and highlighted campus activities including volleyball, football, cross-country and the first Homecoming King and Queen.
Interim Superintendent Mike Morrison introduced the spotlight and framed the campus numbers as part of a district goal: improving passing rates. Lanham said the school’s formal growth target is to "increase our passing percentage by a flat 20%." Trustees did not take separate action on the spotlight but later approved campus improvement plans addressing academic targets.
