A resident-led petition asking the Brightwaters Board to name the small parcel at the end of Concourse West for Al and Neil Reising was presented and discussed; trustees said they will take the request under advisement and put it on the August agenda for a vote.
Peter Reising told trustees the proposal seeks to memorialize his parents century-long involvement with the canal and to recognize their contributions to the community. He said the family would pay for a bench and plaque if the board approves placement on the site. "The purpose of the proposal is to memorialize my parents hundred year involvement on the canal," Reising said, and invited questions from the board.
Trustees clarified that naming the area would not convert the site to parkland (chair said making it parkland "is a lot more involved"); the board confirmed the designation would be a naming/recognition only and that they have researched the property and will share details. The board asked for public input and said it will vote on the naming at the August meeting after permitting residents time to comment.
