Joseph Algeria, a resident who addressed the Board during public comment, said he returned to his dock around 6 p.m. and discovered the lower unit of one motor missing. "It's going to be $34,000," Algeria said, recounting a mechanic's estimate for a new lower unit and drive shaft; he also cited a separate estimate of about $5,600 for a stainless propeller.
Chair (speaker 1) and other trustees acknowledged the thefts are concentrated in a small stretch of the canal and urged neighbors to lock vehicles and report incidents. The Chair noted the village had not observed Suffolk County Police at the meeting and asked residents to log reports in the Brightwaters app so the village could gather information and share it with law enforcement.
