Village approves stop signs on Orinoco Drive intersections after traffic survey

Board members said the signs aim to slow vehicles entering the village from West Islip. The board noted the survey finds one Orinoco block among the fastest-traveled streets in the village.
Trustees and staff said they would monitor the new signs and address congestion if four-way stops create backups. In public comment, resident Chris Case asked whether the plan includes a crosswalk; the chair and others said crosswalks can be discussed separately and that the traffic consultant had specifically recommended stop signage for the identified locations.
The ordinance-related action was approved by voice vote with no roll-call tally recorded in the record. The board opened the item as part of a public hearing before taking the vote and indicated follow-up review if the community reports problems.
