DODEA grant update: Fort Sam Houston reports Year 2 gains and coaching challenges

Director of Grants Dr. Devonna Friesenhahn presented Year 2 highlights for the DODEA grant "The Three Rs of Rebooting School Culture: Rethink, Rearchitect, and Renew," reporting goal progress metrics and practices the project used to improve instructional capacity.
Presentation materials reported that math achievement metrics for targeted grades showed net gains compared with the SY2022 baseline and described evidence from teacher focus groups that professional learning and PLCs improved instructional practice. The presentation also listed challenges: professional activities for instructional coaches sometimes reduce available coaching time at campus PLCs and scheduling issues limited fifth-grade team access to coaches.
Dr. Friesenhahn described next steps to address coaching frequency and to sustain promising practices, including continued professional learning and the Teacher Leadership Academy model used to build teacher leadership. The board received the report; no action was taken during the meeting.
