Board approves Budget Amendment No.1, insurance renewal and audit firm; identifies $225,000 chiller replacement

On Feb. 20 the Fort Sam Houston ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved several financial items: the December 2024 and January 2025 financial reports, the renewal of property, liability and fleet insurance with the Texas Association of School Boards Risk Management Fund, and the selection of Coleman Horton and Company as the financial auditing firm for the 2024–25 fiscal year.
Trustees also approved Budget Amendment No. 1 for the 2024–25 fiscal year. Assistant Superintendent Julie Novak reminded the board that they previously committed $5,500,000 in the 2023–24 fund balance for construction projects and that the district will begin design and construction. Novak said the estimated amount of funds needed from the General Fund for the 2024–2025 fiscal year for construction projects is "$2,500,000" and that the district will code it as a transfer out to the Capital Projects Fund. Novak also noted an estimated chiller replacement cost of $225,000 for Cole's Media Center/ Gym/Field House via a Board-approved purchasing cooperative.
All financial motions passed unanimously; the board discussed oversight of construction spending as projects move into design and execution.
