The Flatonia ISD board approved a $15,000 amendment to the district budget to purchase new percussion equipment for the school band.
A staff member reported that several percussion instruments are more than 15 years old and that one instrument failed during a recent competition, leaving the program short of functional equipment. The staff request sought $15,000 so the band could replace key instruments and retain a $4,500 balance for other band needs.
Board member Laverne moved to approve the budget amendment and Dan Sullivan seconded; the board voted and the motion passed. During discussion trustees asked whether the district could sell or recondition old instruments to offset costs; staff said they would explore resale or buy-back options before disposal.
