Resident urges action on unlicensed motorized bikes; police to research enforcement options

Police Chief Greg Smith explained state and local laws that govern those vehicles and told the board that under current village and state law there is no ordinance authorizing the police to impound the unlicensed bikes. Chief Smith said he will research further options his department can use to address the problem across the village. Trustee Gerald Stewart said he has seen the same behavior in his neighborhood and suggested residents report locations where the bikes originate to help enforcement.
No ordinance amendment or immediate enforcement change was adopted at the meeting; the police department will report back with findings and possible options.
