Curriculum staff recommended the district adopt Amplify CKLA, third edition, for kindergarten through 2nd grade and the board authorized the superintendent to work with the curriculum director to move forward with the purchase.
Miss Byners, who led the K–2 review, told the board the recommendation followed a multi-week rubric review, teacher input and constraints tied to the Montana Reads Literacy Grant. "We are recommending that we adopt Amplify CKLA, the 3rd edition at kindergarten through 2nd grade," she said. Byners said the district has used the knowledge strand of the program since 2020 and already uses the complete CKLA program in grades 3–5.
The presenter said AIMSweb benchmark re‑norming showed a gap this year and that a comprehensive program would better align skill and knowledge instruction. She outlined cost estimates: a one-year invoice around $75,000 and a five-year invoice near $95,000; the district requested authority to purchase about $96,000 over five years. Trustees asked for a clear net-budget comparison showing what existing materials would be cut to offset the purchase. After discussion, a motion to approve the curriculum recommendation and to authorize the superintendent to work with the curriculum director was put forward and carried by voice vote.
