Board tables activities handbook to allow redlines before fall sports

The Lockwood School Board voted to table action on an updated activities handbook after trustees and staff asked for clearer language and time to circulate redlined changes.
Chair (speaker 1) invited Jake Lynch to present the handbook updates; Lynch said the draft corrected several items, including MHSA age-rule language and use of the same accident-report form teachers use at the high school. "This is kind of just forbidding what is in the MHSA handbook," Lynch said while explaining an age-rule revision. Trustees flagged inconsistencies with the district medication policy and requested that the changes be shown against the prior version.
Trustees also raised practical concerns about fall-sports timing. Lynch noted registration and practices are imminent: "We have practice starts next Friday," and asked whether teams should be enrolled under the old or new handbook if trustees delayed approval. After discussion, a trustee moved "to table" the handbook so staff can return with a redlined version and distribution plan for parents and coaches.
The board’s decision leaves current registration logistics in place while staff prepare the revised handbook for the next meeting. Chair said the handbook will be shared as a draft and that staff will outline how parents and students will sign or acknowledge the updated documents.
