GPISD outlines Red Ribbon Week plans and fentanyl awareness after pill-test findings

Gwendolyn Sanders, LCSW and the district's Alcohol & Substance Abuse Advisor, presented Red Ribbon Week plans and fentanyl-awareness efforts to the SHAC. Sanders said posters and a newsletter will be distributed to middle and high schools (not to elementary campuses) and that interactive activities and lessons for students and teachers are planned for the month.
Sanders told the committee that "7 out of 10 pills tested positive for fentanyl," and described planned activities including an Art and Reel contest, dress-up days, a trivia game in cafeterias and the possibility of a Drug-Free Hall of Fame or Walk of Fame. Staff confirmed that trivia and materials will be shared with Maria Herrera in Family Engagement to communicate with parents.
