The Grand Prairie ISD School Health Advisory Council met Oct. 2, 2024, to review its duties and bylaws and confirm committee leadership. Patience Baity, Executive Director of Health and Wellness Services, summarized Texas Education Agency SHAC guidance and district bylaws, noting TEA requires a minimum of five members while GPISD bylaws call for at least 15 and designated officers.
Baity introduced Umeka Wright, Director of Student and Employee Wellness, as the SHAC chair. The committee did not elect a Co‑Chair or Secretary at this meeting; Baity said those positions will be voted on at the next SHAC meeting scheduled for Dec. 4, 2024. The discussion clarified that the SHAC must meet at least four times per year and that meeting dates will be posted on the district website.
