Library trustees tell Laconia subcommittee the draft theatre contract limits library access

John Moriarty, chairman of the Library Board of Trustees, addressed the Finance Subcommittee during the public-comment period and said the board is "dissatisfied" with how the draft agreement treats the library's access to the Colonial Theatre stage.
Moriarty told the committee the draft grants the library 12 days of use while "over the years they should have had 90 days on the stage, and then to this date they have only been allowed 2 days." He said the library has prepared 13 bullet points he intends to share with the City Manager to ensure the library's needs are addressed in the final agreement.
Committee members acknowledged the concern; the subcommittee directed staff to work with stakeholders as the contract is revised and to return to council with the updated terms for formal consideration.
