The Laconia Finance Subcommittee met April 2 to examine a draft management agreement for the Colonial Theatre with Spectacle Management and requested a set of adjustments before forwarding the contract to the full City Council.
City Manager Kirk Beattie circulated the draft and "focused on what the changes were in the contract," and representatives from Spectacle Management attended to answer committee questions. Chairman Soucy said he "would like to see a City Councilor be a member of that advisory board," and Beattie agreed to add that provision.
Committee members discussed operational details that would be written into the agreement: an onsite manager working 40 hours per week based on the Canal Street entrance, the booking process, and usage allotments cited in the draft (18 days for the city and 12 days for the library). Members flagged contract language on page 7, letter F, and asked that it explicitly reflect that the contract is negotiated with the City of Laconia as well as Spectacle Management.
The subcommittee directed staff to incorporate the requested edits and bring the revised agreement to the City Council over two meetings in April. No formal vote on the management contract was taken at the subcommittee meeting; staff will return with a redlined draft for final consideration.
