Monte Sereno weighs joining Los Gatos evacuation-route simulation; local share could cost over $40,000

Chapin said the proposed simulation would model evacuation timing and bottlenecks between Monte Sereno, Los Gatos and Saratoga and could identify roads needing brush maintenance, pavement repairs or other improvements to speed evacuations. Commissioners asked how data would be sourced for the modeling and whether publicly available services such as Waze or Google data would be used; Chapin said the town is reviewing proposals and waiting to learn whether Los Gatos receives grant funding to move the larger project forward.
No formal funding decision was made at the meeting. Chapin said the commission and City Council could prioritize improvements if a study identifies feasible, cost-effective measures.
