Taco Project revises sidewalk seating to meet police setback; board approves with storage condition

Nicholas Faustini, the architect for the Taco Project, told the board the team discovered a dimensional discrepancy in its original plan, corrected it and eliminated four seats so the layout meets the police chief’s recommended 10‑foot setback. “We eliminated 4 4 seats to maintain the 10 foot setback the police chief was recommending,” Faustini said while presenting updated drawings showing 4 tables and 8 chairs with an 11.5‑foot setback from the curb.
Board members asked whether tables must be stored inside when not in use; Kevin and others said that making indoor storage a condition improves sidewalks’ nighttime appearance and keeps the walkway clear. The board moved to approve the Taco Project plan with the condition that tables and chairs be stored internally when not in use, and the motion carried on an oral vote.
