Council approves first reading to align unclaimed property code with state law

Budget manager Matt Grama presented Ordinance 14, which updates the City of Aspen municipal code (Title 2, chapter 2.08) to align the local unclaimed property policy with the Colorado Revised Uniform Unclaimed Property Act. Grama said the change moves the city from an internal policy to alignment with the state’s framework and directed residents to the State Treasurer’s office website to search for unclaimed property.
Council approved reading and passage to second reading by roll call. The city agreed to include a note to publish the state treasurer online resource in an upcoming community newsletter so residents can search for property they may be owed.
