Administration officials and the consultant argued the venue could generate substantial local spending from visiting teams and spectators. Consultant Scott Wisong said tournaments typically bring multi‑day visitors who spend on lodging and food, and recommended marketing and visible signage along major corridors to attract pass‑through traffic.
"We're hoping that this venue will bring in new hotels, new restaurants, new development," Wisong said, and staff noted discussions with local hotels would be part of later work if commissioners indicate a preferred area. Staff offered a planning figure for modeling economic impact: "our estimates are a 137,000 out of town visitors annually," an estimate used to justify outreach to hotels and consider corridor choices.
Commissioners said commercial development potential is an important factor when comparing corridors and that the administration should prioritize corridors likely to attract sustained hotel investment if the bond passes. Staff suggested that once the commission gives directional guidance, administrators will begin conversations with commercial stakeholders and refine visitor and revenue projections with parcel‑level data.
