Parish staff outlines phases, facilities and estimated costs for Catapult Sports Complex

Administration described the Catapult Sports Complex as a multi‑phase project. CEO Erica Bryant said the first phase would be an indoor facility with 10 basketball courts and convertible space for volleyball and other indoor sports; later phases could add outdoor fields and ancillary amenities.
"This complex, would actually cost about 70,000,000," Bryant said, adding that the commission has called a Nov. 3 election for a $60,000,000 bond proposition to fund most of the construction. Staff said they would seek direction from the commission about which areas to focus on so administration can begin targeted property searches and developer outreach if voters approve the bond.
Commission members noted the project could spur hotels, restaurants and other commercial investment if site selection prioritizes corridors with hotel availability. Commissioners also discussed design and sustainability elements such as LEED strategies, HVAC scheduling and potential roof‑mounted solar as ways to moderate long‑term operating costs.
Committee members stressed the importance of public outreach and repeated that no property purchases will be made without commission approval following due diligence.
