"When you lose your home in a wildfire, the last thing you should be worried about is being hit by a massive tax bill," Senator Oregon said, urging colleagues to pass the bipartisan disaster-relief bill pending on the floor. She said the legislation would lift a tax on settlement payments and ensure disaster victims can deduct losses after federally declared disasters.
Senator Oregon told the chamber the House has already passed the negotiated bipartisan measure and asked the Senate to discharge the Senate Committee on Finance and proceed to immediate consideration of HR 5366. She asked that the bill be considered read .333 time, passed, and that the motion to reconsider be laid upon the table.
