District to display new K–5 science curriculum and revise K–2 report card for public review

Board members said the district will put a new K–5 science curriculum on public display for review and is revising the K–2 report card to give parents clearer numeric indicators of student performance.
Board member Tish described the curriculum choice and public‑review window. The board selected the Teachers Curriculum Institute 'Bring Science Alive' program and said it aligns with Ohio learning standards and the National Next Generation Science Standards. The curriculum will be available for public review starting March 20 and continuing through April 20; residents can schedule a time to see materials at the district office.
Tish also told the board the K–2 report card is being redone to include numerical interpretive values so parents will receive clearer information about how their children are progressing against the standards. She said the district is working to make those interpretive values consistent across classrooms and to track teacher training and state requirements related to the 'science of reading.' “It’s going to provide a much clearer, picture of where your child is at in their learning,” she said.
District staff noted the review period and a plan to coordinate with administrators and unions before final approval at a later meeting.
