Fort Scott commissioners begin drafting city manager performance evaluation

Fort Scott City commissioners used an Aug. 4 work session to begin consolidating several evaluation templates into a single performance-evaluation tool for the city manager. Commissioners said they want a practical form that sets clear deliverables, includes a self-assessment from the manager and can be consistently scored and aggregated.
Commissioners discussed weighing simplicity against comprehensiveness and agreed further work would be needed. "I have reviewed the documents that different ones of us sent over, and I appreciate Brad going out to other municipalities and getting copies of theirs as well," one commissioner said while urging the group to identify the job elements that should be evaluated. The commission asked that the final product be measurable and durable so it can guide evaluations of future managers as well as the current manager.
