The Prescott Valley town council unanimously adopted Resolution 2026-2459 on Aug. 6, approving an administrative policy that defines permitted and prohibited uses of the town seal and logos and establishes a streamlined approval process for authorized uses.
Legler introduced the policy and said the town sought outside trademark counsel to ensure the policy protects the town's identity without policing viewpoint. Brooke Katz, who spoke as trademark counsel, told the council the policy distinguishes the official town seal (reserved for authentication of official documents) from marketing logos and includes express language to preserve constitutionally protected speech, such as news reporting, parody and criticism.
Councilmembers praised staff for outreach and the clear approval steps; one motion authorized the mayor to sign the resolution adopting policy 1-12 to be included in the Prescott Valley policy and procedures manual.
The policy is intended to reduce public confusion about what communications are town-authorized while allowing incidental and background uses, and to provide a simple permission pathway for organizations hosting town events.
