The Churchill County Board of Commissioners voted on the spot to appoint Joseph “Joe” Sanford as county manager, after discussing whether to hire a third-party recruiter or to formally install the interim manager.
Board members praised Sanford’s experience and familiarity with county operations during the recruitment discussion. Sanford said he would accept the appointment if offered: “I appreciate the consideration, and I would accept the position,” he told commissioners. A motion to appoint Sanford was made and seconded, and the ayes were called; the motion carried.
Commissioners who supported the appointment cited Sanford’s knowledge of the county’s priorities and his potential longevity in the role. One commissioner noted Sanford’s engineering background and years of local service when urging colleagues to confirm him. The board did not select a third‑party recruiter and instead confirmed Sanford by voice vote.
Sanford said the county will soon issue bid documents and requests for qualifications for upcoming Snipplomo projects and thanked county staff for their work. The appointment takes effect immediately; the board offered congratulations and moved on to new business.
