Administrators warn early learning program costs total about $100,000 a year as enrollment stays small

Heather, the district business manager, told the board the early learning program has relied on a literacy grant and interlocal funds and that current district support "is running about a 100,000 a year for that program." She said county financial reports are being reconciled and cautioned that drawing down interlocal reserves to sustain the program would be risky if state funding does not improve.
During the superintendent-support discussion the superintendent reported the program currently has eight enrolled students with two out-of-district students on a waiting list and said testing will be used to qualify students; staff noted state testing trends mean "we will probably have to figure out some sort of 1st come, 1st serve" approach if demand exceeds capacity. Administrators said they would update strategic-plan language and monitor options rather than immediately expand capacity.
