Town staff told the Select Board Aug. 5 that construction work on Boulder Path is on schedule, with plans for binder coat and curb work aimed around Oct. 9. Staff said in-ground infrastructure work is near completion and the road will be closed daily for the next two weeks to speed work.
Several residents described near-misses as cyclists and pedestrians entered work zones when the road was temporarily reopened on non-work days; one resident asked for an on-site person to direct people and for better signage. The chair responded: “Message received, Craig. We’re gonna—we’ll do something about it.” Staff said they would ask DPS to provide a detail at the site and deploy an electronic message sign at intersection approaches to indicate a pedestrian detour.
The board asked staff to check pedestrian detour signage at key approaches (West Branch and the ski-lift bridge) and to coordinate with local bike-rental operators and the resort to distribute detour maps. Staff noted the town cannot afford a 24/7 detail but said targeted staffing at peak times could be arranged.
