Andrew Garlock, the project architect, said the general contractor provided a schedule showing mobilization on May 4, the rink operating in November and the addition (locker rooms) finishing toward the end of December. "We opened bids April 15 last week on Wednesday," Garlock said as he reviewed bid and schedule milestones.
Garlock emphasized an important long-lead item: a package air-handling unit (MAU) that provides heating, cooling and ventilation. "That unit takes 20 weeks," he said, and the design team expects to order it immediately to avoid schedule slippage. He also noted asbestos abatement in the concession area had been completed weeks earlier to avoid contractor delays.
The board asked that the general contractor, project team and town meet after award to coordinate the detailed schedule and ensure all parties can meet the mobilization date; staff said the schedule will be updated biweekly online during construction.
