The Town Board voted to award four construction contracts totaling $5,247,000 for the Alexandria sportsplex renovation, with the award set effective Friday, April 24.
The chair opened the adjourned meeting saying the session's purpose was to review bids and the project team recommended awarding to the apparent low bidders after a review of qualifications. "We as a team ... do not take any exception to the town awarding contracts to the low bidders on the project for these 4 contracts," said Andrew Garlock, the project architect, summarizing his team's review of references, financials and past work.
Garlock outlined that bids were opened April 15 and the project was packaged into four contracts — general construction, mechanical, plumbing and electrical — as required by state procurement rules. The apparent low bidders named in discussion were Welland and Curry (general contractor), E&I Mechanical (mechanical), Hoover Heating & Cooling (plumbing) and Cars Construction (electrical).
Board members discussed timing related to a previously advertised permissive referendum and confirmed that, if no petition was filed by day 30, the board intended to proceed with awarding the contracts. A motion to award the recommended bids was made and the board approved the motion on a roll-call vote; the clerk read the roll and Councilman Papiades, Councilman Thomas, Councilman Honeyman and Supervisor Suite each answered "yes." The board directed staff to post schedules and bid documents on the town website.
The meeting record shows the board intends the project to be closely managed through construction, with the project design team remaining involved for ongoing inspections and schedule updates.
