CRA staff told the board that the commercial development loan program application window has closed with eight applications totaling just under $10,000,000 across target areas including the CBD and State Street project areas; staff said those applications will be evaluated and brought back for board consideration, likely in September.
On public art, staff said the Scribe and the Arts Council selected Cole Eisenhower to paint a mural on the side of the multi-ethnic senior housing tower facing Japantown. The mural is expected to cover 3,000 square feet and take about 30–35 days to complete; staff confirmed $72,000 would come from CRA percent-for-art allocations set aside for public art. "The Scribe and the Arts Council worked together earlier this year to select Cole Eisenhower, the artist who will be doing the mural," staff said.
Staff also announced that senior project manager Ashley Ogden will depart in August to join consulting firm WSP after seven years with the CRA and roughly 10 years with the city; staff said Ogden will attend an upcoming meeting before leaving. Board members praised staff and asked for updates on the commercial loan program and other initiatives.
