Police say Flock portal helps investigations; council presses for transparency

During the operations presentation, Captain Alba described the Flock camera transparency portal and urged residents to consult the portal for data. She recounted a burglary where footage from a Los Gatos camera helped identify a suspect and said the system aided investigative work across jurisdictions.
Council members pressed on privacy and sharing policies. Captain Alba pointed to an online policy and state guidance, saying the department ‘‘would not share with federal agencies’’ and that statewide attorney-general direction restricts uses that would result in immigration enforcement or abortion-law enforcement. "Rest assured, that we have many, many statutes and guidelines and policies and laws," she told council, noting local policy and the county-sharing limits.
Council members asked staff to provide clearer resident-facing explanations of what the portal shows, who can request footage and how often data are purged; staff indicated the camera policy link is available on the portal and said they will follow up with more public outreach.
