The Village of Skaneateles Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved variances on Jan. 28 to allow an enlarged front porch, a two‑story rear addition and a rear patio at 42 Leitch Ave.
Bob Eggleston, speaking for the Bouley family, told the board the design had "two objectives to the design: 1) to enlarge the front porch and make it usable and more in keeping with the street, and 2) to add living space to the back of the house and improve the kitchen layout with a rear entrance." He said the project will add a second‑story primary bedroom and a second bathroom and that, although the house is nonconforming under the village code, the change would result in only a slight further decrease in open area.
Board members said the proposal would improve the property. On a motion from Chairman Michael Stanczyk, seconded by Member Michael Balestra, "the requested variances were granted by unanimous approval." The board recorded a 5–0 vote in favor. Conditions attached to the approval require that work be completed within 12 months and that the house and porch gutters "tie into [the] storm system consistent with municipal operations requirements." The applicant representative said he will seek permission and guidance from village municipal operations to connect to the existing storm sewer on Leitch Ave.
The hearing concluded at 7:56 p.m.; Ian Carroll, clerk to the boards, filed the minutes.
