Bronxville trustees highlight downtown improvements, green initiatives and ban on gas leaf blowers

Village staff and trustees reported a range of downtown and environmental initiatives at the June 9 meeting, including hardscape improvements, new plantings, and community recycling efforts.
Administrator Jim Palmer described work with the Bronxville Beautification Committee and vendor GEDNY Farms to add irrigation and planting beds in downtown median and bump-out areas, with a plan to solicit public feedback on hillside terraces. He encouraged planter sponsorships and thanked volunteer groups. "The green committee organized a very successful take back day" was noted by trustees; the event included electronics recycling, shredding and book donations.
Palmer also reminded the public that the ban on gas-powered leaf blowers began May 15 and runs through Oct. 15, and said landscapers must be licensed by the village. "We are in the period of the ban of the use of the gas powered leaf blowers, that commenced on May 15 and continues through October 15," Palmer said, and he described an anonymous email mechanism for reporting suspected violations so the village may investigate and consider permit revocation.
