The Modesto Reno Youth Commission elected Johan as chair and filled two other officer posts during its first regular meeting on Sept. 9 via Zoom. Commissioners also confirmed a slate of activities for the coming year and set follow-up steps to finalize logistics.
The vote to appoint Commissioner Chow as secretary was moved and seconded; the chair reported the raised-hand count in favor and the selection carried. After two rounds of nominations and a modified voting approach for vice chair (members were asked to raise hands for those they supported rather than vote 'no'), the chair announced Commissioner Singh as vice chair. Johan, who was then elected chair, said the commission would work on delegating tasks to build experience among members. "I think the youth commission is really gonna be strong this year," Johan said after his appointment.
The meeting followed standard procedure: nominations were opened, candidates spoke about their qualifications, and votes were taken by show of hands. The commission moved quickly from officer selection into setting its activity priorities for the year.
