KEMP ISD board votes to call bond election; Kemp mayor urges support

At a Feb. 3 special meeting, the Board of Trustees of KEMP ISD voted to call a bond election for the district, authorizing staff to give notice and take steps necessary to hold the election.
Trustee Matthew Gross made the motion to "approve and adopt an order authorizing the Board of Trustees of the Kemp Independent School District to call a bond election to be held within said District; making provisions for the conduct and the giving of notice of the election; and providing for any other provisions related thereto," and Trustee Sharron Rankin seconded. The motion passed with six votes in favor, zero against and one member absent.
During the public-comment portion of the meeting, Kemp Mayor Christi Neal expressed support for the proposed bond, saying it would be an investment in the district's students and infrastructure and encouraged the community to vote in favor of the measure. Board President Vidal Jones opened the meeting at 6:00 PM and confirmed a quorum before business began.
The board's action on Feb. 3 clears procedural steps toward placing the bond before voters; the motion authorizes district officials to provide required public notices and to proceed with preparatory work. The agenda and meeting minutes note the board's compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act and board policy limiting public comments to five minutes.
There was no executive session on the item. The special meeting concluded and was adjourned by President Vidal Jones at 7:03 PM.
